I matured more and more each month that I was away from my home in Chicago, and for assisting me with doing that, the camp itself deserves 5 stars. Since I don't want to take the risk of having bad cabin mates again, I would advise that one go for a maximum of two years just to explore both sessions.
The second time, Session 1 of 2015, I would probably give 2 or 3 stars for the simple reason that almost all of my cabin mates were TOTAL DOUCHEBAGS. They would start fighting and getting crass out of the blue, and our counselors couldn't contain them a few times. Only two of them I remember having great relationships with, but my memory is so cloudy that I can't remember their names. It was an awful experience the second time just because of my cabin mates being really unfair.
How can I thank the staff of this place enough? They literally changed both of my sons for the better. Improved attitudes and grades after each summer. I will be forever grateful for this Camp and it’s owner. They taught my whole family’s skills to survive life while teaching them to love and cherish the great outdoors. My sons really enjoyed working on the goals and achievements each year. Each year they got a little better at each skill as well. I think these boys will always canoe throughout their life, and their deep love of all that MN has to offer will continue to flourish into their adulthood. The boys truly love Camp Buckskin with all their heart, and so do I. Thank you for all you have done for us.
I visited this camp twice for two consecutive summers. My first year, 2014, I participated in Session 2. That session is the main reason as to why I am giving this camp 5 stars. I had amazing cabin mates who were fun to be around and talk to yet really helpful when necessary. My counselors were tough but really fair, guiding us when necessary and quickly solving problems between the 8 of us. Every one of the seven activities offered high enjoyment for me, although I didn't swim a few days due to the threat of leeches and not having good swimming shoes. Yet, the counselors were fine with it, as I tore through the make-up sessions.
On the summer of 2016 I can say it's not worth $5000 per session say,me stuff everyday I stayed only for session one or else I would have been spoiled the very last and would have given you 5 but thank goodness I didn't I now will never go to Northern minnesota ever in my life because of you.
Im 48 and this Camp Helped Me Alot..It"s A Memory...I Will Never Forget,,,There"s Hope KIds..
This camp is absolutely AWFUL! Don't come here! I came here hoping to have fun! Oh man was I wrong! At meals one of the counselors yelled at me for having my elbows on the table, but she had HERS on the table, She had food in her mouth, and she was yelling across the table, HYPOCRITE! They also forced us to clean the toilets with bleach and clean the floors with mops. They say it will "help" in the future, but in the future I will not be using a mop! One of the counselors told me to shut up! They did nothing about it. There is so much awful things about this camp that I could wright a whole book on bad things about this camp. That's only the few bad things. DONT COME HERE!
